Depression & Glyconutrients

Can People Suffering From Depression Benefit From Taking Glyconutrients?

Depression is a whole body illness.

Glyconutrients are vital for cell communication which is a whole body operation. Depression is

not always trauma related, more often it is mood related. Glyconutreints are supportive of both. The healthier you are, the better cell surface connection, the better you handle trauma. Our mental performance, mood and behavior depend on food as a source of fuel for the brain and it neurotransmitters. How you feel, your memory, mood state of relaxation is determined by the state of these neurotransmitters. These neurotransmitters are made of glycoprotein’s which are sugars combined with protein.

Who are the key players here?

They are neurotransmitters serotonin, dopamine and noradrenalin.

Serotonin has to do with self image, mood, tension, and sleep.

Dopamine and noradrenalin is to do with drive, alertness and quick movements.

Complex Carbohydrates improve your serotonin

Protein will promote dopamine and noradrenalin.

How do we become depressed?

  • Stimulation consumption…coffee, cocaine and champagne
  • Eating copious amounts of sugar
  • Eating badly and or skipping meals
  • Never exercising
  • Certain medications…read the side effects
  • Can inherent a gene that are deficient in neurotransmitters
  • Free radicals, they are free but so very radical!
  • Cumulative pesticides
  • Xeno-estrogens
  • Menopause
  • Hardening of the arteries
  • Allergies
  • Hypoglycemia

Different types of depressions:

  • Depressive disorder,
  • Dysthymic disorder which is long term or recurrent but not disabling, usually associated with negative thought patterns.
  • Bipolar are episodes of depression and mania.
  • SAD or seasonal affective disorder such as the winter blues which is largely due to a lack of Vitamin D. There is usually a high suicide rate over the Christmas season.

Why not just take Anti depressants?

They do help in about 50 to 80% of cases. They take four to six weeks to kick in and they do have side affects for example inhibiting sex drive! So you feel better in one area of your life with a problem created in a another.

Why try glyconutrients?

By introducing glyconutreints we enhance our whole body cell to cell communication. This allows the body to heal and repair itself. It does not only treat the symptoms and the great thing about them is that they are not interactive with prescription drugs. So you can overlap the two until such time you wean yourself off the prescription drug.

Body and Mind connection

Depression can mask many other dis-eases’.  Many diseases can create a depressive state. You are what you eat and getting connected with your body, feeling what is right for you can make such a big difference to your state of mind.

Take time out, believe in yourself, and above all, love yourself!

Considerations

We all get the ‘blues’ from time to time…correcting your diet and supplementing with harmless nutrients may have benefits far beyond what might reasonably have been expected.
